Culinary Medicine Classes from the Celiac Disease Foundation

Culinary medicine is an evidence-based field that brings together medical, nutrition, and culinary knowledge to assist patients in maintaining health, preventing, and treating disease by choosing high-quality, healthy foods in conjunction with appropriate medical care. By utilizing practical approaches to assist patients in unlocking the benefits of food as medicine, providers can reinforce dietary management as the treatment for celiac disease. The Innovations in Culinary Medicine Pilot Project will include a series of quarterly webinars, each led by experts in the field, covering topics ranging from the latest research in celiac disease to nutrition strategies tailored for individuals with gluten-related disorders. The sessions will also feature live cooking demonstrations conducted by skilled chef educators certified by Harvard Medical School and the Institute of Lifestyle Medicine. Webinars are accredited by the Boston Children’s Hospital Continuing Education Department for 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ for physicians and 1.0 CEUs for Registered Dietitians.

School Support Sessions from the Celiac Disease Foundation

Having a structured 504 Plan in place is crucial for all students with celiac disease, especially those attending public schools or those that receive federal funding. The Celiac Disease Foundation School Support Sessions represent the first ever national celiac disease education partnership with Boston Children’s Hospital, the University of Chicago Celiac Disease Center, and the Mayo Clinic. The sessions will be held monthly and be open to all parents of a child with celiac disease in the United States. Each session will be led by an on expert on setting up 504 plans specific to celiac disease and will cover federal laws and regulations that govern this autoimmune disease, the appropriate type of plan to set up, reasonable accommodations, and how to get individual support for your family. This meeting is appropriate for families with a child of any age including early childhood through college.
