The Society for the Study of Celiac Disease (SSCD), serving as the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Celiac Disease Foundation, is proud to introduce the first and only program of its kind — the Celiac Recognized Unit of Excellence (CRUE).

The CRUE recognizes medical units that demonstrate a sustained commitment to delivering high-quality celiac disease diagnosis and care. Recognition is based on excellence in unit policies, credentialing, staff training and competency assessment, and quality improvement practices.

Participation in the CRUE connects units across North America committed to advancing celiac care. Patients can be confident knowing their treatment is provided by teams that meet rigorous education and quality standards established by SSCD and the Celiac Disease Foundation.

CRUE Criteria

  • Unit medical director and one dietitian must be members of SSCD.
  • A minimum of 50% of entire unit staff must be members of SSCD, defined as any physician, nurse, nurse practitioner, dietitian or medical personnel, regardless of specialty.
  • Attendance/involvement by the unit medical director in at least one SSCD-associated event per year with a minimum of eight (8) hours or CME or equivalent recorded annually.
  • Evidence of an IRB or similar approved research or quality improvement activity within the last five years. 
  • Units at separate physical addresses are considered separate units, regardless of institutional affiliation or ownership. Each unit must pay a separate annual recognition fee. Please complete an application for each individual unit seeking recognition and note the additional unit names below or on a separate page.
